Notary & Solicitor Services

Reliable help with important documents.
Some legal matters do not require lengthy proceedings—but they still require careful attention.

Atraves Legal Services provides accessible notary, commissioner and solicitor services for individuals, families and businesses. We explain what is required, verify documents carefully and help clients complete routine legal matters efficiently.

Appointments are available in Vaughan, Woodbridge and Toronto. Mobile appointments may also be arranged throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Notary Public Services

A notary public can verify signatures, administer oaths and affirmations, commission declarations and certify copies of original documents.

We provide assistance with:

  • Notarization of signatures

  • Certified true copies

  • Affidavits

  • Statutory declarations

  • Commissioner of oaths services

  • Consent to travel letters

  • Invitation letters

  • Proof-of-identity documents

  • Passport and immigration-related documents

  • Academic and professional documents

  • Documents intended for use outside Canada

  • Other documents requiring notarization or commissioning

The person signing must normally attend the appointment with the complete, unsigned document and valid government-issued identification.

Certified True Copies

A certified true copy confirms that a copy has been compared with an original document and appears to be a true copy of that original.

Documents commonly certified include:

  • Passports

  • Driver’s licences

  • Birth and marriage certificates

  • Permanent resident cards

  • Citizenship documents

  • Diplomas and transcripts

  • Professional licences

  • Court and government documents

Please bring both the original document and the copy, if one has already been prepared.

Affidavits and Statutory Declarations

An affidavit or statutory declaration contains statements that a person formally swears, affirms or declares to be true.

We can commission documents concerning:

  • Identity or residency

  • Name discrepancies

  • Lost or damaged documents

  • Common-law relationships

  • Immigration and sponsorship matters

  • Insurance and financial matters

  • Court and administrative proceedings

  • Other personal or business circumstances

A notary or commissioner does not automatically verify the truth of every statement. The person making the affidavit or declaration remains responsible for its contents.

Documents for Use Outside Canada

Documents intended for another country may need notarization, authentication or an apostille before they will be accepted.

We can notarize eligible documents and help you understand the general steps that may follow. Requirements vary by country and by the organization receiving the document, so clients should confirm the precise requirements before their appointment.

Solicitor Services

Practical legal assistance for everyday matters.

Some documents require more than a signature or seal. When legal advice, drafting or document review is needed, we can provide solicitor services tailored to the particular matter.

Wills and Powers of Attorney

We assist clients with preparing straightforward estate-planning documents, including:

  • Wills

  • Powers of Attorney for Property

  • Powers of Attorney for Personal Care

  • Review and revision of existing documents

  • Execution and witnessing arrangements

A properly prepared estate plan can clarify your wishes and identify the people authorized to make decisions if you become unable to do so.

Consent to Travel Letters

A consent letter may be recommended when a child travels outside Canada without one or both parents or guardians.

We can prepare and notarize travel-consent letters based on the family’s circumstances and the available travel information.

Invitation and Support Letters

We assist with preparing invitation or support letters for family members, friends and other visitors travelling to Canada.

An invitation letter does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. Immigration authorities make decisions based on the complete application and the applicable legal requirements.

Document Drafting and Review

We may assist with the preparation or review of straightforward legal documents, including:

  • Declarations and sworn statements

  • Authorization and consent letters

  • Demand and response letters

  • Personal and business undertakings

  • Simple agreements

  • Independent legal advice, where appropriate

  • Other routine legal documents

The available service and fee will depend on the nature and complexity of the document.

Mobile Notary Appointments

For clients who cannot easily travel, mobile appointments may be available at:

  • Private residences

  • Hospitals

  • Long-term care and retirement residences

  • Offices and workplaces

  • Other agreed locations

Mobile service is subject to availability. A travel charge may apply in addition to the notarial or legal-service fee.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Please bring:

  • The complete document

  • Valid government-issued photo identification

  • Any instructions received from the organization requesting the document

  • The original document when requesting a certified copy

  • Any required witnesses, unless arrangements have been confirmed in advance

Do not sign the document before your appointment if your signature must be witnessed, notarized, sworn or commissioned.

We may need to decline or postpone service if identity, capacity, voluntariness or the purpose of a document cannot be adequately confirmed.

Clear and Transparent Service

Before proceeding, we will explain:

  • The service your document appears to require

  • What you need to bring

  • Whether additional witnesses are required

  • The applicable professional fee

  • Any additional mobile, printing or travel charges

Important Information

The information on this page is general and does not constitute legal advice. Contacting Atraves Legal Services does not, by itself, create a lawyer-client relationship.

Notarization or commissioning does not mean that Atraves Legal Services has reviewed, approved or provided legal advice concerning the contents of a document unless legal-review services have been separately requested and confirmed.

The person or organization receiving a document determines whether it is acceptable. Clients are responsible for confirming the recipient’s particular notarization, witnessing, translation, authentication or apostille requirements.
